Alkaline foods that help prevent diseases

Alkaline foods have become a rage after it was known that they help to prevent cancers. It is now believed that eating more alkaline foods helps to prevent cancer, obesity and heart disease.

The human body is put under too much stress when it is fed with processed foods, fast food and sugars. The body has to work a lot to detoxify these foods and that shows on the body as it continues to weaken from the toxins that accumulate in it. Such toxins contribute to diseases.

Another big problem with such foods is that they also alter the PH levels of the body, making its acidic than slightly alkaline, which is its inherent nature. When the body turns acidic, it leads to irreparable damages. If our pH changes from the normal alkaline level to harmful acidic conditions it will start affecting our immune system and make us more susceptible to disease.

An acidic pH can occur from, an acid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients. A build up of acids in the cells decrease the body’s ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients and decrease the body’s ability to repair damaged cells. Such a condition would also make tumour cells thrive and make it more susceptible to fatigue and illness.

Perhaps one might feel that an alkaline diet is not needed for now because one may be feeling healthy. However, it is always nice to consume alkaline food because it would help the body detoxify any acidic food that is consumed.

The top five alkaline foods are:

Swiss chard: Swiss chard takes the top spot as one of the best alkaline foods which also has the ability to protect against viruses and bacteria and keep free radicals at bay.
